World Penguin Day
25th April
Every 25th of April is celebrated the World Penguin Day. They are creatures native of the Antarctic area and today, more than ever, their natural habitat is seriously threatened. Penguins, like polar bears, are an endangered species. Thus this Day is aimed at raising awareness of this flightless bird whose existent is becoming a threat every day.
A funny curiosity as funny as the penguins are: it was an initiative of the American station McMurdo (founded in 1956 and with permanent Antarctic base, a scientific and logistic pole of world reference) that proposed the celebration of this Day.
The main objectives of the Day are to make penguins better known, to understand how they live and, above all, to know the simple actions necessary to protect their habitat.
