World Giraffe Day
21st June
At the initiative of the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) beginning in 2014, Giraffe Day is celebrated each year on the 21st of June. The purpose is to raise funds to preserve the species. The existence of giraffes, like that of many other creatures, is unfortunately threatened due to the inexorable decrease of their natural habitat because of climate change (with the destruction of ecosystems) and man (focused on poaching or the increase of human settlements).
According to the Foundation, only a little over 100,000 specimens remain in the wild; consider that in the last three decades, in Africa, their numbers have decreased by 40%, for this reason giraffes have been included on the list of species “Vulnerable to extinction”.
