International Universal Health Coverage Day

12th December

The United Nations on 12th December 2017 by Resolution 72/138 proclaimed 12th December as International Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC Day), but it was in December 2012 that the United Nations General Assembly endorsed another resolution urging all countries to accelerate progress toward universal health coverage (UHC) because of the extreme importance for all of us. The idea was to enable everyone to have access to free or affordable quality health care.

This International Day aims to raise awareness of the need to create and spread as many health systems as possible globally. On this Day, we share the stories and experiences of millions of people who still, unfortunately, do not have easy access to health care in order to stimulate global organizations, governments and major investors to find effective remedies and major funding.

2020 has been a long difficult period of time for the global health systems: COVID-19 has put the world’s health systems on test revealing serious gaps that need to be filled as soon as possible. Our lives, our livelihoods and our future depend on a strong, well-organized health system.
