International Wild Koala Day

Thanks to their large heads and fluffy ears Koals are considered to be the symbol of Australia but, while they are native and unique to Australia, the quest to save them has to be global.
In fact, as a result of the 2019-2020 wildfires in Australia today, it is unfortunately estimated that they have been reduced by as much as 72%. At the beginning of the last century there were hundreds of thousands, perhaps more than a million koalas, while today there are barely 35,000 left.
Koalas are one of the top 10 species most at risk due to climate change. A two-degree increase in global temperature could be catastrophic for the koalas.
This is why every 3 May it is celebrated the International Wild Koala Day in order to raise awareness and fights for their survival. The ‘Koalas Forever’ project was initiated by WWF Australia and aims to double the number of koalas (particularly on the east coast of Australia, a perfect habitat for this beautiful species) by 2050.
Koalas can only survive in thick eucalyptus forests: australians celebrate the day by planting trees and implementing ways to combat global warming. Let us follow this noble example and save the Koalas.
