Global Wind Day
15th June
Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that takes place every year on 15th June.
Global Wind Day is organised by WindEurope and GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council) to promote the use of renewable energy and in particular of wind energy, and its power and the potentialities it holds to reshape our energy system. Global Wind Day also serves to spread the different uses, ways and possibilities that wind energy offers.
In association with EWEA and GWEC, national wind energy associations and companies involved in wind energy production organise events in many countries around the world to raise awareness about the potentialities of wind energy because it can contribute to the sustainable development of the planet. It is important to stress that today wind is the most affordable option for new electrical generation and can serve a huge part of the global population.
What’s more wind is deemed to be one of the key technologies for economic recovery: it is clean and it provides energy at more affordable costs and what’s more it has almost zero impact on the environment. Significant reduction of CO2 emission is possible through increasingly advanced technologies and infrastructure. Noteworthy since 2010 the price of wind turbines has dropped by 40%. Studies predict that by 2050, 50 percent of electricity will be generated by wind and sun (photovoltaic energy).
