World Science Day for Peace and Development

Celebrated every year on 10th November, World Science Day for Peace and Development highlights the important role that science plays in our society. This Day was decided in 2001 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The first time it was celebrated in 2002.

This Day serves to ensure that citizens are kept informed about developments in science thus it aims at linking science with society. Celebrating this Day also underscores the role scientists play in broadening our understanding of this unique, marvelous but fragile planet we all call “home,” and thus in making our societies more sustainable.

The purpose of the Day is to highlight the importance of the role assumed and the work carried out every day by our scientists who try to help us understand our planet in the simplest way possible in order to make our society and development more sustainable respecting Nature and preserving the resources of our planet. Promoting the sharing of scientific results worldwide is also a goal to be pursued and which the celebration of the Day and the necessity to raise support for the scientific endeavor.
