International Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare
30th November
The Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare is officially recognized by the United Nation, and it has been celebrated since 2005. Noteworthy April 29th was chosen as the date for the event’s celebration because the “Chemical Weapons Convention” entered into force on that day in 1997. However at its 20th Session the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention it was decided to change this date and it was moved to November 30th.
The scope of the Convention on Chemical Weapons is to exclude completely the possibility of the use of chemical weapons. It is worth noting that during World War I, chemical weapons have caused more than 100,000 fatalities and more than a million casualties.
This recurrence also remind us that the use of all chemicals agents are harming our planet, but unfortunately chemical products are used in a variety of different industries, including automotive, manufacturing, and industrial operations. Only through a controlled use of these products we can limit the harming effect of these agents on our planet.
