International Plastic Bag Free Day is an annual initiative aimed at eliminating the use of single-use plastic bags. This Day is observed all around the world on July 3rd. The International Plastic Bag Free Day not only put an emphasis on the plastic bag free world, but also spreads the awareness about the devastating effects of plastics on the environment.

Plastic pollution is a global problem and many organizations, and thousands of responsible citizens are working together to takle with this global catastrophe which is poisoning our seas and environment, encouraging the use of other eco-friendly bags. In order to make a plastic bag free world, it is necessary to educate the public about the devastating effects of throwing plastic bags and other plastic derivates into the environment, and thus is also urgent to help people to change their behaviour.

The origin of the International Plastic Bag Free Day is not found yet, although on the Internet it is possible to find several possibilities. An European initiative called “Zero Waste Europe” put in evidence the importance of the Day and why we should all pay particular attention to the use of plastic, in fact its hazardous effects on the planet are severe especially when we discharge it into the seas harming many marine species.
