World Environment Day

5th June

World Environment Day, which is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment, is celebrated on the 5th June every year.

It is worth noting that World Environment Day, first held in 1974, has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on environmental issues in particular global warming, climate change, environment degradation and marine pollution, human overpopulation, to sustainable consumption. This Day, “World Environment Day” has grown to become a global platform to widespread more awareness about the problems our planet suffer from and instill more awareness among earth population about its health and contribute to its preservation.

Unfortunatelly human activities such as intensified agriculture which has an impact on wildlife habitats, acceleration of climate change, and deforestation, all these factors have pushed nature beyond its limits and brought many species on the brink of extinction. Moreover it has emerged that one Earth alone today is not enough to meet the demands that humans make of nature each year. It is necessary to stress the fact that If we continue on this path, biodiversity loss will have severe implications for humanity, including the collapse of food and health systems.

This Day has grown more and more to become a real global platform capable not only to raise awareness but also to push the entire world public to act in a more concrete, effective and faster way to safeguard a “worn-out” environment. Noteworthy every year a new theme is proposed and more and more companies, Non Governamental Organizations, governments and even sports and entertainment celebrities are involved to support the most urgent environmental issues organizing dedicated campaigns and fund raisings.
