World Animal Day
4th October ...
18th March
The World Recycling Day is celebrated every year on March 18th and it is aimed to bring people together and champion ways to put the planet first, thus saving resources and reusing what can be reused. One of the main purpose of the Recycling Day is to highlight the need to consider recyclable materials as resources rather than waste.
Noteworthy the Recycling Day was created to highlight the importance of recycling. In fact recycling plays a crucial role in preserving the earth’s primary resources. These resources of course include: water, air, coal, oil, natural gas and minerals.
Recycling is also considered a key part of the circular economy. Each year, recyclables save over 700 million tonnes in CO2 emissions. This is projected to increase to 1 billion tons by 2030.
Recycling is a process by which a material (or a product) intended to be thrown into the waste, is subjected to several clean processes that allow it to be reused either as a raw material or as a new product, a waste that is reintroduced into the life cycle. Recycling, therefore, allows us to make the best use of natural resources and, consequently, reduce the environmental impact of our consumption habits by devising creative and intelligent ways and solutions to redesign our objects and give them a new life. There is no doubt recycling is playing a crucial role in the war to save the future of our planet and humanity.
About the symbol of recycling
This symbol was designed by a college student, Gary Anderson, in a 1970 contest to design a symbol for recycling products. This symbol is based on the triangle-shaped Möbius symbol, where each of its three arrows represents one of the stages of the recycling process: (i) the collection of materials to be recycled, (ii) the recycling process itself, and (iii) the purchase of these recycled products, ensuring that the system is repeated over time and continues as long as possible. There are dozens of variant of this image worldwide: for example when the three arrows surround a number, that indicates the material is a type of plastic resin that can be recycled.
