World Wood Day
21st March
World Wood Day is celebrated on March 21st. The main aim of this Day is to raise awareness about the importance of wood and its responsible use. Wood is an important resource to humans, it has been used for thousands of years for fuel and as a construction material and it is also used for making furniture, utensils, paper, and many other objects, such as for example musical instruments. However in order to use it, exploitation of forests has grown exponentially.
Noteworthy the idea of celebrating World Wood Day was conceived by a non-profit, non-governmental international organization dedicated to the promotion, education, and research of wood culture is it to say the International Wood Culture Society. This particular Day was created to recognize the importance of wood and wood use in our daily life, and most importantly to promote a harmonious coexistence between people and nature.
The 2021 WWD theme is CO2 & Wood, and the sub-theme is Wood: Carbon Storage because trees absorb CO2 and contain carbon within wood. It is important to underline that Sustainable biodiversity forestry, and responsible use of wood and forests can thus expand carbon storage, and using wood can help reduce CO2 emissions.
