World Food Safety Day

7th June

The World Food Safety Day was decided at the 40th Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations Conference in July 2017, and also the World Health Organization expressed and manifested its support in December 2017. It is necessary to stress that the FAO is the only international organization overseeing food safety along all aspects of the food chain.

Thus it was in December 2018, the General Assembly of the UN, cognizant of the urgent need to raise awareness at all levels and to promote and facilitate actions for global food safety, designated 7th June as World Food Safety Day.

Indeed keeping food safe is a common objective, but it is a complex process that starts on the farm and ends with the consumer. In fact all stages of the food chain, from production, harvest and storage to preparation and consumption, must be considered. For these reasons it is of paramount importance the preservation of our environment and of the ecosystem which is so important for all the inhabitants of planet Earth and all species of animals and plants.
